Islands of Adventure - Pharos Lighthouse

Universal’s Islands of Adventure is where you can find the ultimate thrill ride for the roller coaster enthusiast. The problem is that you have to decide which one of the Universal thrill rides is your favorite.

Jurassic Park Adventure Rides

Islands of Adventure - Jurassic Park Jeep

There are some cool adventure rides at Islands of Adventure based on the movies Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. You can go on an adventure with dinosaurs and see if you can survive.

The Jurassic Park River Adventure is a water ride that will take you through the jungle. Be prepared to get wet! You’ll also want to check out the Jurassic Park Discovery Center, where you can learn about dinosaurs.

For even more thrills, try the Jurassic World VelociCoaster. This coaster reaches up to 65 mph speeds, so it’s not for the faint of heart.

Don’t forget to try the Pteranodon Flyers, a ride where you can soar through the air like a prehistoric bird.

The Jurassic Park is the world’s largest island at 21 acres. The design of this section of the park was influenced by the first two Jurassic Park movies: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park: The Lost World. When visitors come here, they should feel as if they’re stepping into a replica of the ‘real’ Jurassic Park featured in the films.

To construct a verdant tropical environment, hundreds of trees and thousands of bushes, flowers, and plants were brought to Jurassic Park. Designers built a complete replica of the Jurassic Park Discovery Center from the first film.

In addition, the island is home to Camp Jurassic, a heavily landscaped area with caves, amber mines, waterfalls, and other elements that make you feel as though you’ve been transported to the fictitious Isla Nublar.

The music that plays on the island adds to this sensation, amplified wherever you go in Jurassic Park because of the soundtrack played throughout the island; if you recognize it, it’s because it was used in the Jurassic Park film.

John Williams wrote the score, also featured in Harry Potter films and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Secrets of Jurassic Park

  • The pathways in Jurassic Park are even adorned with fossils embedded in the pavement, looking down as you walk.
  • You’ll hear the roar of dinosaurs if you walk on the dinosaur footprints at Camp Jurassic.
  • In the Jurassic Park Discovery Center, you may find a Barbasol shaving cream can. This prop references the first Jurassic Park film, in which one of the characters smuggled dinosaur embryos inside a Barbasol can.

1: Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Islands of Adventure - Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Jurassic World VelociCoaster is the most intense roller coaster experience in Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Based on the hit movie franchise, this thrilling ride puts you right in the middle of the action, careening through the park at high speeds while being pursued by velociraptors.

The velociraptors are some of the most fearsome predators in Jurassic World, and you’ll get up close and personal with them on this hair-raising coaster. As you hurtle through the raptor paddock, you’ll feel like these nimble creatures are hunting you. The twists and turns of the track will send your adrenaline soaring as you race along at breakneck

As you can see from the photo, there’s a pretty steep drop on the ride to get your thrills.

As you float in your raft, you’ll see towering brachiosaurs and menacing velociraptors. But the real heart-stopper is when you come face to face with a giant T. Rex. There’s nowhere to turn, and she’s bearing down on you fast. Your only escape from her razor-sharp teeth is to take the pitch-black plunge into the 85-foot drop below on this water ride.

Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by 65 million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?

Marvel Super Hero Island Rides

Islands of Adventure - Marvel Super Hero Island

Marvel Super Hero Island is an area in Islands of Adventure where classic Marvel character fans can come face to face with Marvel characters, but heroes and villains.

The power of Marvel is on full display here; you can enjoy the rides and feel the power of these iconic characters. There are plenty of photo opportunities, and it’s a great place to explore and have fun.

Secrets of Marvel Super Hero Island

  • Marvel Super Hero Island has a few things to interact with, including communication boxes known as communicators or communication ports. These speakers on short poles are hemisphere (half sphere) shaped. If you push a button, you’ll hear special messages for heroes or villains (depending on where you are in the area).
  • There is a phone on Main Street with the label Crimeline Update that you may reach. You’ll hear superhero and villain quips if you pick up the phone.
  • If you look closely enough, you’ll find Adam Kubert’s signature on each piece of Marvel artwork throughout Marvel Super Hero Island.
  • You’ll see impact points and body outlines of Doom’s previous victims near Doctor Doom’s Fearfall if you keep your attention on the road.

The main street of Marvel Super Hero Island is meant to seem like a city street. Several distinct structures with various facades line the thoroughfare every 10 feet or so. Buildings have names such as Bank, Store, and Comics, which is funny because they’re all in one area.

The style is, however, not simple. Marvel Super Hero Island is dedicated to Marvel comic book characters, such as the Hulk, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Captain America, X-Men, and Dr. Doom. It’s more interested in classic comic book heroes than current cinematic versions.

Adam Kubert, a well-known comic book artist who has worked for all of the main comic book publishers but is best recognized for his work at Marvel Comics, created the Marvel characters and graphics seen throughout the park.

Howard Drossin composed the high-energy music that plays in Marvel Super Hero Island.

Theodor Seuss Geisel’s famous characters are featured in the 11-acre Seuss Landing, based on Dr. Seuss’ iconic characters. From The Cat in the Hat ride to the Green Eggs and Ham Café, several exhibits represent many different Seuss stories on this island.

The style and décor are also indicative of the Seussian fantasy. Lines were prohibited in Seuss Landing. The buildings and signage all have twisting, turning, curved lines that call attention to the general disorder of Seuss world. The colors are equally vibrant, drawing the eye in any direction.

The trees, many of which were brought in specifically because they had been bent and bowed by hurricane winds, are one of the island’s most distinctive features. However, the trees aren’t the only ones salvaged; many things in Seuss Landing were also constructed from recycled materials.

Secrets of Seuss Landing

  • On the lagoon, you’ll find a small area known as Sneetch Beach that the average Universal guest often overlooks.
  • To hear a secret message, stand on the Sneetch footprints nearest to Snookers and Snookers Sweet Candy Cookers.
  • The story of Horton Hatches an Egg features a Horton’s egg hidden behind Circus McGurkus Café Stoo-pendous.
  • If you toss money into McElligot’s Pool, it will be sent to Give Kids the World.
  • There is a pose outside Mulberry Street Store with three men in top hats. Dr. Seuss’ (Theodor Seuss Geisel) man on the left is a caricature.
  • The Green Eggs and Ham Café’s green eggs are colored with parsley paste.

12: Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Islands of Adventure - Skull Island- Reign of Kong

This park section is modeled after Kong, the gigantic Ape that has appeared in numerous book series, movies, and video games since the 1930s.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong waits to thrill guests with an all-new, original story.

Guests will want to brave the dangers of this mysterious island, where few have dared to venture. They will venture into the treacherous jungle on an expedition, meeting prehistoric predators and vile creatures that attack from all sides along the way.

Just when guests think all is lost, the colossal ape to walk the Earth—King Kong—hurls himself between them and certain doom. Is he their hero or the ultimate foe? Only guests brave enough to find out will know for sure.

This is a tiny part of Islands of Adventure, and there’s only one ride here, but it’s worth the visit.

Secrets of Skull Island: Reign Of Kong

  • According to Mike West, Executive Producer for Universal Creative, everything in Skull Island: Reign of Kong, including the temple where the ride is located, was deliberately built “larger than life.”
  • The Great Wall on Skull Island comprises 150,000 square feet of rock work. The enormous wall was carved and painted by more than 300 craftsmen and artists over the course of several months.
  • The Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride has five distinct drivers, so you’ll have to ride at least five times to see them. Will Denham, the nephew of Carl Denham, a character in several Kong films, including Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong film, is one of the drivers.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

Islands of Adventure - The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade

OK, bear with me because this may get confusing.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter started in Islands of Adventure. Then Universal Studios Orlando decided to create The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida.

The existing Harry Potter area in Islands of Adventure changed its name to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

Harry Potter fans will love both places.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure is a recreation of Hogsmeade Village, a British Wizarding town, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a British school for witches and wizards. These areas were first mentioned in the Harry Potter books before being featured in the Harry Potter films.

The breathtaking centerpiece of the Harry Potter area at Islands of Adventure is Hogwarts Castle, which guests may visit on their way to the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride deep within the complex.

This castle has all manner of references to Harry Potter fans, including the Mirror of Erised and moving portraits, as well as Dumbledore’s office and the Gryffindor

Secrets of Hogsmeade

  • In the castle, there is a statue of the castle’s architect. Each Hogwarts House’s mascot surrounds him.
  • In Hogwarts, there are many talking portraits. Look for the Four Founders’ portraits. Each one is holding a Horcrux that Voldemort turned into a relic.
  • The Horcrux locket is hidden inside the castle, and Moaning Myrtle feels her presence in Hogsmeade’s Public Conveniences. When you visit, listen to her voice.
  • The Hogsmeade Owlery features a cuckoo clock with an owl that emerges when the clock strikes.

Toon Lagoon

Islands of Aventure - Toon Lagoon

Toon Lagoon is one of the many themed areas at Islands of Adventure in Orlando. It is based on Jay Ward’s comics, filled with cartoon characters and references.

The area includes two rides, the Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls and the Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges.

There are also several shops and restaurants, including the Comic Strip Cafe and the Cartoon Court.

The distinctive feature of this island is that it is extremely wet, as seen in the water and fountains. The rides, streets, and architecture of Toon Lagoon incorporate pools, fountains, and sprinklers.

Sweethaven is the name of the island, which is divided into two sections: Popeye-themed decor, rides, restaurants, and play areas, as well as King’s Row, which includes the main route through Toon Lagoon and all other attractions.

The entire Toon Lagoon region is a photo opportunity. Around the primary route, you’ll see the thought and dialog bubbles plastered all over the place, such as “Wish You Were Here,” “I Haven’t Had This Much Fun Since I Was A Kid,” and “I’m Going To Need A Vacation From This Vacation.”

The stunning waterfall at the Marmaduke Waterfall is a must-see attraction. Stand beneath them to capture fantastic shots for your holiday scrapbook and social media sites. Universal fans also adore a popular Marmaduke photo opportunity.

Secrets of Toon Lagoon

  • The second deck of Me Ship, The Olive, features free water cannons that may be used to drench people riding Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges.
  • For a special surprise, play the music on the piano in Me Ship, The Olive.
  • Gasoline Alley’s inner tubes spray air at you; you may feel it when you approach them.
  • Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls contains an interactive Rocky and Bullwinkle photo opportunity near the lockers. It’s from Aesop and Son when Rocky and Bullwinkle meet up with Dudley Do-Right for the first time: The opening jackhammer sequence from the episode.

If you’re staying at one of the Universal Studios Florida hotels, you can take a boat ride or easily walk to the theme parks. Guests of Premier and Preferred hotels can get around easily with complimentary water taxis and shuttle services.

You also get the Universal Express Unlimited, so you can skip the regular lines.
